Cannaroma: The Werc Shop Unveils Terpene-Enhanced Product Line
As we know, terpenes are compounds found in the essential oils of cannabis that cause its aroma. We’ve discussed the idea of isolating terpenoids and potentially using them to improve the effectiveness of medical marijuana in the past, and a new line of products looks to take things one step further.
Cannaroma: A Fusion Of Science And Cannabis
Based in Pasadena, CA The Werc Shop was founded in 2010 by Dr. Jeffrey Raber with the intent to help as many patients receive access to clean cannabis as possible. The lab has cemented itself as one of the leading facilities in the State of California, with a specialty in terpene profiling.
Expanding on these capalities, The Werc Shop has developed a new class of terpene-enhanced products called Cannaroma. The goal, according to the Cannaroma website, is to help patients create synergistic cannabis products with a unique blend of terpenes.
There’s no denying that interest in dabbing has increased in recent years, as has access to these concentrates. However, it’s been said that volatile terpenes are lost in the extraction process, resulting in slightly different effects. The same can be said when considering infused edibles.
“By adding food-grade terpenes to the final product, scientists at The Werc Shop are able to recreate a similar terpene profile to that of the original plant.”
Accordingly, Cannaroma was developed with the intent to help achieve the cannabis plant’s original essence after it has been processed. By adding food-grade terpenes to the final product, scientists at The Werc Shop are able to recreate a similar terpene profile to that of the original plant.
As Dr. Raber explains, this would mean that the resulting Cannaroma product should be a closer representation of the original cannabis plant that it stems from. However, the technology is by no means perfect.
According to Kenneth “K” Morrow, author of Marijuana Horticulture Fundamentals: A Comprehensive Guide to Cannabis Cultivation and Hashish Production, it would be impossible to accurately recreate the entire terpene profile of a given cannabis strain with the information currently available.
“There are around 350 terpenoids that give a strawbery its smell,” Morrow explains. “You’re not going to be able recreate that with a combination of just a few terpenes.”
Cannaroma: Owned And Supported By The Werc Shop
Although it may be not be possible to replace all of the terpenes lost during processing, Cannaroma has quite a few practical applications. In fact, it can be found in a few products already on the market in California.
The Venice Cookie Co. announced in a recent blog post the release of their tincture (Indica One – PM Formula with Cannaroma), which is formulated with a mix of myrcene, linalool, and nerolidol – three terpenes that are believed to help patients fight insomnia.
Another well-known product that uses Cannaroma technology is The Clear from Clear Concentrates. This allows them to replace some of the terpenes lost during extraction.
“Cannaroma has plans for a wide-ranging line of products that will be distributed through various licensing partners.”
Considering the fact that The Werc Shop is opening a new lab facility in Washington, we can expect to see quite a few Cannaroma products come to light over the next few months.
In addition to the terpene-enhanced products already in production, Cannaroma has plans for a wide-ranging line that will be distributed through various licensing partners. According to Dr. Raber, the list of potential products includes air fresheners, candles, concentrates, and e-cig cartridges, and more.
