Study: CBD May Help Reduce Psychotic Symptoms Of Schizophrenia
Research Shows Cannabinoids May Reduce Psychosis Research about the cannabinoid system is becoming a trend in medicine, and cannabidiol (CBD) seems to have stolen the limelight from its sister, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). CBD has shown promise in preventing cancer from cigarette smoke, reducing heart damage from chemotherapy, and many more studies are being conducted. CBD inhibits the uptake of anandamide, allowing it to stay …
The Perfect Pen Vaporizer: Does It Exist?
If you have been following Medical Jane for some time, you’ve probably heard us say time and time again that we are not the biggest cheerleaders of the “vaporizer pen craze.” Nonetheless, every time I leave my house I pat down my pockets: Phone? Check. Wallet? Check. Vape pen? Check. I have no doubt that in the near future, this will be a normal regimen of all stoners and patients alike (and I’m sure many of you reading can already relate). Now if this were a free country, I’d be walking around with a pack of joints in my pocket …
Study Shows Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) May Help Relieve Depression Symptoms
THC Decreases Brain Activity In The Face Of Negative Stimuli A team of researchers from The Netherlands published this study in the journal European Neuropsychology this month; it focused on the effects of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) on humans while processing emotional content. In order to assess the processing, the researchers used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) technology to gauge the eleven volunteer subjects’ brain activity. Subjects were shown a number of faces expressing different emotions and asked whether the person was happy or fearful. This task was …
Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV): A Cannabinoid Fighting Obesity
What Is Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV)? As the name might suggest, tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) is very similar to the most famous cannabinoid, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC); THCV is like THC’s propyl cannabinoid cousin. Their chemical structure is nearly identical, but the process involved in their creation is slightly different. Unlike THC, cannabidiol (CBD), and cannabichromene (CBC), THCV doesn’t begin as cannabigerolic acid (CBGA). Instead …
Fresh Headies Owner, Bubble Man Spearheads The Dry Sift Movement
More People Are Turning To Pure, Solventless Concentrates Cannabis extracts have been around for centuries and they aren’t disappearing anytime soon. Nor should they for that matter. When made correctly, cannabis concentrates like dry sift hash, water hash, and Butane Honey Oil (BHO) can provide patients with some of the purest, most effective forms of cannabis possible. In recent years, the most popular form of concentrates would have to be BHO, which uses pressurized butane to extract the cannabinoids. However, recently there has …
Study: Cannabichromene (CBC) May Aid In Brain Development
Italian Researchers Investigated Three Major Cannabinoids A team of researchers from the Endocannabinoid Research Group in Italy investigated how cannabinoids affect the brain’s development. The group is funded by GW Pharmaceuticals, which is the manufacturer of Sativex. As is the trend lately, pharmaceutical companies are ramping up efforts and investing large sums of money into growing their inventory of pharmaceuticals that take advantage of cannabinoids. Sativex is derived from THC and CBD. At the time of writing this article, it has already been approved in Spain, France, and UK.
Cannabidiol (CBD) May Prevent Cancer From Cigarette Smoke
Study: CBD May Inhibit Creation of Carcinogens It’s no secret that smoking cigarettes can have deadly consequences. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates, cigarettes are responsible for 160,848 cases of cancer each year. It is believed that the connection between smoking and cancer is due to cytochrome P450, family 1, member A1 (CYP1A1). CYP1A1 is a protein found in humans. Although it can be perfectly harmless in small concentrations, a 1993 study titled “CYP1A1: friend or foe” found that high levels of CYP1A1 were related to cancer. It is …
Cannabinol (CBN): The Cannabinoid That Makes You Sleepy
What Is Cannabinol (CBN)? When we look at the construction of cannabis, we find that it has over 80 cannabinoids. Until recently, tetrahydrocannbinol (THC) was the only cannabinoid anyone seemed to care about. Thankfully recent research, particularly about cannabidiol (CBD), has brought about an intense interest in all the cannabinoids. As is the case in many of the known cannabinoids, cannabinol (CBN) stems from cannabigerolic acid (CBGA) in cannabis. The plant naturally …
Vaporizing Cannabis: Possible Treatment For Neuropathic Pain Symptoms
A recent study performed in California found Cannabis to be successful in reducing neuropathic pain intensity. Researchers at the University of California, Davis recently completed a study on the effects of vaporized cannabis on neuropathic pain. The study was sponsored by the Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research and the VA Northern California Health Care System. Neuropathic pain is an result of nerve damage. It causes sensations like: pins & needles, itching, wetness, and burning. Neuropathic pain refers …
Study: Cannabidiol (CBD) May Help to Prevent or Treat Neurodegenerative Diseases
Cannabidiol (CBD) May Prevent Buildup of Excess Iron In The Brain With the advances in science, life expectancy is much longer now than it was 100 years ago. While this is a positive thing, it means that more and more people are being affected by neurodegenerative diseases, like Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and Huntington’s disease. “Iron is deposited in parts of the body and gradually builds up. Excess iron is linked to various diseases, such as: liver fibrosis, …
