What is the terpene Myrcene found in cannabis?
Myrcene is a monoterpene and the most common terpene found in cannabis (some varieties contain up to 60% of the essential oil). A high myrcene level in cannabis (>0.5%) typically results in the well-known ‘couch-lock’ effect of classic Indica strains while a low level of Myrcene (<0.5%) often results in the uplifting and vibrant effects most associated with Sativa strains. Additionally, Myrcene is found in oil of hops, mangoes, bay leaves, eucalyptus, wild thyme, lemon grass and many other plants. How many terpenes are in cannabis?
There are currently over 200 terpenes in the cannabis plant, although there are only a handful of terpenes that make up a majority of the cannabis products currently on the market. These include Myrcene, Pinene, Limonene, Caryophyllene, Linalool, Humulene to name a few. What are terpenes?
Terpenes (TUR-peens) are a large class of organic hydrocarbons produced by a wide variety of plants, and are referred to as terpenoids when denatured by oxidation (drying and curing the flowers). They are the main building block of any plant resin or “essential oils” and contribute to the scent, flavor, and colors. Some are even known to have medicinal value. Terpenes are the main class of aromatic compounds found in cannabis and have even been proven to interact synergistically with cannabinoids to provide for a range of different effects. While many people believe that it is the sticky glands of …

Terpene Isolation Could Be The Future Of Cannabis
There Is An Increasing Interest In Isolated Terpenes Terpenes are aromatic compounds that are largely responsible for the smell and taste of cannabis. Terpenes are believed to interact synergistically with cannabinoids to improve the efficacy of medical marijuana. With that said, relatively little is known about terpenes as far as cannabis is concerned. Most often, the cannabis community thinks of terpenes solely as a source of aroma and flavor in their favorite strain of cannabis. However, there are a number of …
Terpenes May Improve Effectiveness of Medical Marijuana
Terpenes Influence the Synergy Effect of Cannabis As we know, science has identified and characterized the molecular structure of around 20,000 terpenes, which makes it the largest category of plant chemicals. These aromatic compounds are found in the essential oils of plants and flowers, and plenty of studies have been done on their effects. Of the 20,000 identified terpenes, about 140 of these have been found in cannabis. Only a few of them appear in high concentrations, but they have been found to have a number of benefits.
