Chernobyl: Extremely Potent Cannabis Strain With An Exceedingly Sweet Terpenoid Profile
- Chernobyl
Originating from TGA Subcool Seeds, the Chernobyl strain of cannabis is known for its heavy-hitting, yet calming effects on both the body and mind. Chernobyl is classified as a Sativa-dominant hybrid. As such, it is a go-to marijuana strain for many MMJ patients in search of its exceedingly sweet terpene profile and its unique ability to help combat a variety of mental disorders.
Chernobyl Strain = Trainwreck x Trinity x Jack the Ripper
The Chernobyl strain came to be when TGA Subcool Seed’s founder, Subcool, traveled out west on a quest for the best Trainwreck cut he could locate. He was not impressed with the Arcata cutting as it was “to tall, to slow, and to bi-sexual” for his taste, so he kept looking.
After many failed attempts, he had almost written off this legendary strain. That is, until one day Subcool came across an amazing plant discovered by a buddy of his that goes by the name Smokescreen.
“Grown with care utilizing Kushman Veganic’s cultivation techniques, the buds on the Chernobyl plant are mightily resinous and capable of producing a sweet Sativa-like stench and flavor profile reminiscent of a lemon-lime slurpee.”
One female plant was said to have all of the traits of the famous Trainwreck strain without producing a single male stamen. The crew from TGA then decided to combine this female with the genetics of Jack the Ripper, a tasty sativa-dominant hybrid. Subcool goes on to say, “the complex coloring that shows up late in the plant’s life is a thing of beauty and the potency of this mother is epic.”
Veganic Chernobyl Cut From Buds & Roses / Kushman Veganics
I’ve heard a lot about Chernobyl through the grapevine but never had the chance of trying the strain myself until now. When I saw that one of my favorite collectives in California had the Chernobyl strain available (Buds and Roses LA) I knew I had to see what all the fuss was about. I headed to meet the President of the collective, Aaron Justis, to get a tour of their new facility and take a sneak peak at some of the new Veganic cannabis strains that are about to be released to MMJ patients residing in the valley.
Grown with care utilizing Kushman Veganic’s cultivation techniques, the buds on the Chernobyl plant are mightily resinous and capable of producing a sweet Sativa-like stench and flavor profile reminiscent of a lemon-lime slurpee. So you may be wondering… “Veganic Pot?”
Basically, what makes Veganic growing different is the source of nutrients. Instead of using animal-based composts, it only utilizes nutrients derived from plants. The reason plant-derived nutrients are beneficial is that they don’t leave behind any residue. Instead, it only leaves behind complex-carbohydrates and those will feed organisms in the soil itself. Since there is no residue, there is an improvement in taste. It also diminishes the need to adjust pH levels when used with veganic soil.
I got a chance to meet everyone and learn how they operate on a day to day basis. The team at Kushman Veganics definitely works hard. With so many different types of plants, each with their own special needs and schedules, it’s not a rare sight to see someone out of breath, gulping water to recover from tending the grow. It’s really interesting to witness, as most patients probably take it for granted just how much time, energy and care goes into producing a quality harvest.
When asking Mr. Justis about their standard process, he tells me, “Each and every strain we offer medical marijuana patients is cured for a minimum of two weeks, preferably much longer if time permits.” Curing is a simple yet critical step that a lot of growers in California skip to push product quicker — which makes no sense to me, but I digress… the buds will speak for themselves.
Drying and curing good quality cannabis buds is like aging an exquisite wine. It needs time to develop its bold lingering taste and memorable terpenoid profile, but it is always worth the wait.
What To Expect From The Chernobyl Cannabis Strain
Extremely potent, vaporizing just a small amount of Chernobyl is a sure way to calm your nerves and get into a relaxing zone. Used by many medical marijuana patients for its ability to fight mental disorders including depression, PTSD, chronic stress, and even anxiety. Chernobyl is also used to help calm symptoms related to tremors, nerve pain, and nausea. You can proably thank the exceptionally strong Trainwreck genetics found in its lineage for that.
I felt a noticeable buzz behind the eyes after just 2-3 hits from my latest vape of choice, the Herbalizer Vaporizer. Typical to most uplifting Sativa-dominant strains, I found Chernobyl to have a 1-2 hour head-high followed by a mellow, tiresome crash. Of course, it depends on your tolerance, how much you consume, how well your cut of Chernobyl is grown, and a variety of other factors… so start with a little and let this potent strain creep up on you.
