Ken’s GDP Strain: Big Bud X Purple Urkle
Indica lovers rejoice! Granddaddy Purple (or GDP) genetics can be linked to the mix of Big Bud and Purple Urkle – each powerful Indica strains in their own right. Ken brought them together in his search for a strain that was easy to grow and delivered much-needed pain relief.
Sure enough, he was successful in his mission and Grand Daddy Purple has become a household name among medical marijuana patients and cannabis enthusiasts alike. According to the Grand Daddy Purp Collective (based in Richmond, CA), GDP is the most requested strain 6 to 1 in medical marijuana collectives.
In many respects, Granddaddy Purple is very similar (some believe it is actually the same) to the Grape Ape strain. Interestingly, they each are said to have Mendocino Purps in their lineage, which explains why they have nearly all the same traits with only small aesthetic differences. That being said, you can always recognize the Grandaddy Purple strain from the distinct berry marshmallow scent.
