Starberry
- Star Dawg
- Kushman’s Strawberry Cough
Bred by Kushman Genetics, the Starberry strain (AKA Starberry Cough), is a Sativa-dominant hybrid. It was brought into this world by crossing two strains that have been a long-time staple in the Buds and Roses LA garden.
Starberry Strain: Strawberry Cough X Stardawg
This tasty hybrid from Kushman Genetics took home second place at the 2012 High Times Medical Cannabis Cup in Los Angeles. After getting to try some Starberry myself, I can understand why.
As the story goes, the Starberry strain was the result of crossing a male Stardawg (Chemdawg triple backcrossed) grown from a Chemfather seed with a Strawberry Cough female.
The Starberry looks similar to its Strawberry Cough mother but has more of a dense, OG look to it (probably from the Chemdawg genetics). It’s dried out with very little moisture remaining (if any), which creates a nice “snap” when pulling the bud apart.
The Starberry Strain Terpene And Flavor Profiles
The Starberry strain has a unique terpene profile that is sweet and pungent, like pepper sprinkled on a bed of gasoline-doused strawberries.
Much like Kushman’s Strawberry Cough, the Starberry strain has a strong, distinct strawberry aroma. However, it is not as sweet smelling as Strawberry Cough. Instead, I detected light undertones of Sour Diesel or Chem Dawg when the flowers were put through the grinder.

I even noticed some hints of cheese in the lingering aftertaste that coated my mouth with every exhale.
Also, depending on if I vaporized or smoked Starberry, the flavor would change dramatically. When vaporizing the Starberry strain, I found it to be much sweeter with strong berry influences, where as a joint would produce a more richer tasting smoke with spicy undertones.
How Will The Starberry Cannabis Strain Affect Me?
Cured for at least 2 weeks, the team at Buds and Roses knows how important a good cure is for producing premium buds. The trichome heads are full and clear, remaining intact with the bud beautifully (as captured by our high-res photography). This explains the amazing aroma, sticky buds, and potent smoke.
The uplifting, yet hazy effects were akin to the Strawberry Cough strain — heavily concentrated in the head and lasts for a little over an hour and a half. The high is extremely clear-headed and calming, making Starberry a great ‘wake and bake’ strain or daytime medication to help focus on any task at hand.
