New York’s Medical Marijuana Program: The Patient-Doctor Disconnect
Introduced in July 2014, New York’s medical marijuana program has been a work in progress from the get-go. The state recently announced an expansion to its program that is beginning to open the door to improved patient access. These changes included adding chronic pain and PTSD to its list of qualifying medical conditions. Chronic pain, on its own, is already responsible for more than 7,500 new patients joining New York’s MMJ program. This is a step forward for the state that was once criticized for its strict rules. Similarly so, New York recently took steps to end …

New York State’s PTSD Expansion Analysis
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo marked this past Veteran’s Day by signing a measure that expanded the state’s medical cannabis qualifying conditions to include post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The legislation was sponsored by Senator Diane Savino, a proponent of the inclusion since the program’s infancy. The bill received near unanimous support in the Assembly with a 131-8 vote, and with a Senate approval of 50-13. Its passing expands coverage to an estimated 19,000 New Yorkers. In doing so, it is expected to bring needed relief to a series of New York residents, including its veteran population. Additionally, it could bring …

New Regulations Are Changing the California Cannabis Industry As We Know It
While many California residents were originally happy when Proposition 64, “The Adult Use of Marijuana Act,” passed back in November, many medical patients are now left questioning how the upcoming changes to California’s legal cannabis industry are going to affect their treatment plan. Shifting to a recreational system is proving to be a very complicated and unsettling process, especially when the existing system isn’t exactly the best infrastructure to work with. This can be very frustrating for medical patients who were content with the way it was, but that’s not to say that the current legal gray …

Known as the Rohrabacher-Farr amendment, it is a provision included by lawmakers that allows states to continue controlling their own medical cannabis policies and agenda without fear of intervention from the federal government. The bill, which funds the government through the end of September 2017, is expected to pass this week. Here’s the full text of the new medical marijuana provision: None of the funds made available in this Act to the Department of Justice may be …

On Monday, Oregon legislators sent Senate Bill 863 to Gov. Kate Brown’s desk, with a strong message – “being necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is declared to exist.” The bipartisan proposal would shield information identifying marijuana consumers from federal officials, as well as preventing retailers from selling consumers’ info to third parties. Delaware Could Become The First State To Legalize Adult Use Marijuana Through Legislation
As the first state to ratify the United States Constitution, Delaware officially became known as The First State. Now, six years after approving a state-wide medical marijuana program, and two years after passing a bill to decriminalize cannabis possession, Delaware could become the first state to legalize adult use marijuana through legislation. As of today, the District of Columbia and eight other states have legalized adult use through ballot measures. Initiatives and referendums — collectively known as ballot measures, propositions, or simply questions, differ from most legislation passed by representative democracies. Ordinarily, an elected …

Iowa Lawmakers Work To Create Workable Medical Marijuana Program for Patients
DES MOINES, IA — Lawmakers in Iowa have filed multiple proposals that would establish a more comprehensive statewide medical marijuana program than the limited CBD-only law currently on the books. The bills, while not perfect, would provide some improvement to the state’s existing CBD-only medical marijuana law, which only applies to patients suffering from intractable epilepsy. Not only is the current law extremely limited, but it also fails to provide an in-state supply source for CBD derived medications. Multiple polls conducted in recent years have found overwhelming support for medical marijuana in Iowa. A Des Moines Register/Mediacom …
